We at Mindworthy Therapy believe that all children are inherently good and connection seeking beings. Because children often lack the necessary skills to identify and communicate their emotions and needs, we view their behaviors as a window into their internal world. This window provides the insight necessary to help understand your child and the current challenges they are experiencing. By utilizing evidence based practices and expressive art interventions, we will help your child identify and understand their emotions. We will model, role play and practice effectively communicating their feelings and needs and increasing their coping skills to manage these big feelings.
After meeting with your child for their initial appointment, an individualized treatment plan will be developed with specific goals and objectives to address the presenting problems bringing them into counseling. If indicated, we may also recommend incorporating family therapy sessions and collaborating with your child’s school or other mental health providers to best support them.

Adolescent Therapy:
Mental health conditions are common among teens and young adults. 50% of all lifetime mental illnesses develop by age 14 and 75% develop by age 24.
Adolescence can be a particularly challenging time. It is a period of complex emotional and physical growth where the battle between seeking independence while maintaining support and approval from one’s own family often clashes. As a result, adolescence can often be fraught with mood instability and opposition, sometimes causing conflict in the parent-child relationship and disrupting the family unit.
Adolescents have a unique set of challenges and tasks at this period in their lives. Often teenagers are coping with navigating first romantic relationships, social peer groups, and academic and social pressures. Moreover, they are often juggling the difficult task of becoming independent and discovering their identity while trying to please the authority figures in their lives.
In working with adolescents, we attempt to meet them where they are, to help them feel accepted as they are. Often creative therapeutic interventions such as art, games and writing are incorporated into their talk therapy sessions
Some adolescents are eager to participate in therapy while others are apprehensive. We address this apprehension directly and work to help them explore their fears and identify their goals for therapy. Creating a positive therapeutic alliance with trust and rapport requires adolescent clients to have confidentiality in their sessions. As such, we maintain a confidentiality policy with adolescents where, unless safety is at risk, we will not share specific content from their sessions with their parents. We invite both the adolescent and parent(s) to the first session to discuss this and the presenting problems and to identify therapeutic goals.
The following are common reasons adolescents seek therapy:
- Feelings of Depression or Anxiety
- School Stress/Academic Problems
- Difficulty Adjusting to a Life Event
