During your first session, we’ll discuss your history, your reasons for seeking therapy, and your goals. We will also work together to come up with a unique treatment plan that suits your needs. Throughout each session, exploring your personal history and working towards your goals often happens simultaneously—we continue to identify how the root cause of your depression influences your symptoms and relationships with others and how you can adopt healthier thought patterns and habits to heal.
In the course of treatment, we’ll work on specific techniques that you can use to address symptoms of depression outside of therapy. You will learn to recognize unhealthy behavioral patterns and gain the insights and skills to break them. In addition, we will focus on mindfulness skills—like meditation and breathing techniques—to help you cope during tough times. You will also explore grounding methods that will allow you to recenter yourself when you feel uncertain.Â
We incorporate several therapeutic modalities to support our clients. Through psychodynamic therapy, you can increase your self-awareness and examine how your past influences your emotions and behaviors in the present. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) utilizes bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or alternate tapping, to help you physiologically reprocess trauma.Â
You’ll also learn to analyze cognitive distortions with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to see how your thoughts affect your feelings, break the negative thought patterns that lead to depression, and gain emotional regulation skills. Through CBT, you can begin to challenge cognitive distortions and develop a healthier self-image.

After a couple of sessions, the right therapist won’t feel like a stranger anymore! As we work together, we’ll build a supportive therapeutic relationship, and talking about your mental health will get easier over time. A good therapist will maintain an unbiased, objective perspective throughout your sessions together, and your therapist’s extensive educational background provides them with informed insight into depression that you might not have considered.
I’m ashamed to seek therapy. I should be able to deal with this on my own.
Many people who suffer from depression experience intense feelings of shame and guilt, and this can hold people back from seeking help when they need it. But pursuing therapy for your depression is nothing to be embarrassed about. In fact, making the decision to schedule your first therapy appointment takes a lot of courage. Depression treatment is expensive. I don’t think I can afford it.
For therapy to be accessible, it needs to be affordable. And therefore, we offer several payment options for our patients. We are in-network with several large health insurance companies and can check your plan’s benefits and will file claims on your behalf. We can also submit claims for patients using out-of-network benefits. In addition, we accept HSA, FSA, or HRA funds to cover deductibles and copays and offer sliding scale fees to patients who do not have insurance.
