OUR TEAM

Max Alvizu MA, LPC

Life inevitably brings both wonderful and challenging moments. While difficult experiences can be painful, they can also create opportunities for growth, self-discovery, and resilience. As a therapist, my goal is to walk alongside my clients through both the struggles and the triumphs, offering support, guidance, and a safe space to navigate life’s challenges.

Specialties & Experience

I work with children, adolescents, and adults, as well as couples and families. I have experience supporting clients with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, emotional and behavioral difficulties, interpersonal concerns, parenting challenges, divorce, and major life transitions. I have worked in both community mental health and private practice settings.

Approach

I believe the relationship between therapist and client is an important part of the therapeutic process. I strive to create a warm, genuine, and non-judgmental environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves and exploring their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I see my role as a guide, while recognizing that each client is the expert on their own life. Together, we can identify and build upon the strengths and inner resources you already have.

My approach is collaborative and tailored to each client’s unique needs and goals. A central part of my therapeutic approach is Internal Family Systems (IFS). I have completed Level 1 IFS training through the IFS Institute, and I incorporate IFS principles to help my clients develop greater compassion toward the different thoughts, emotions, and “Parts” of themselves that may influence how they respond to life’s challenges.

Alongside IFS, I draw from Person-Centered Therapy, Psychodynamic Theory, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients better understand themselves, develop practical tools for change, and build upon their existing strengths. My goal is to create a therapeutic space where clients can better understand themselves, feel more connected to their inner resources, and move toward greater confidence and well-being.

I also believe therapy doesn’t always have to feel heavy. I bring positivity, curiosity, and humor into my sessions and believe that laughter can help create connection and make therapy feel more comfortable and authentic.

Education

I earned my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Roosevelt University and my bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Anthropology from Loyola University.

Outside of the Therapy Room

Outside of therapy, I enjoy spending time with my son, family, and friends. I also love movies, television, and video games and, most importantly, making people laugh… even when my jokes don’t always land!
